When you were a kid it seemed everything was bigger, better, brighter and tastier ?
I grew up in a Northern town and holidayed, direct door to door by steam train, from my home to our family caravan at Hest Bank. The caravan was a four wheeled wooden showman's thing of WW1 vintage. The only photo I have of my grandfather was him sitting on the steps of that caravan and he was killed in WW2
My brother and I loved trainspotting which was good as the caravan backed onto the mainline to Glasgow.
Our treat was to run along the shore and into Morecambe and replenish ourselves with a tub of Morecambe Bay Shrimps.
This Christmas I treated my extended family to a taste of my youth. Did it pass the test of time - YES and some, they were never as good as this in my day!
The only disappointment was no flat wooden paddle spoon to eat them with. But that was overcome by using the excellent Millers Seaweed Biscuits.
